Muscle Men, also known as M.U.S.C.L.E. (Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere), were a popular toy line in the 1980s. They were small, pink, rubbery figures, each with unique designs and exaggerated muscles. They originated from Japan, where they were known as "Kinnikuman." The figures were based on characters from a Japanese manga and anime series called "Kinnikuman" created by Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada.
In the United States, the toy line was licensed by Mattel and released under the name "M.U.S.C.L.E." in 1985. They were sold in small, colorful packets containing multiple figures, usually in packs of four or more.
There were hundreds of different Muscle Men figures, each with its own unique appearance and name. Some figures were based directly on characters from the Kinnikuman series, while others were original creations for the M.U.S.C.L.E. line.
Collecting and trading Muscle Men figures became a popular pastime among children in the 80s. Since the figures were sold in blind packaging, collectors enjoyed the thrill of discovering which figures they had acquired.
